How to Set Up/View Triton Access (Okta) Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)
Overview
This tutorial will guide you through how to set up Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) for your Triton Access (Okta). Multi-factor authentication (MFA) is a validation method that requires users to use two or more additional verification factors to access a resource (e.g., an application, online account, or VPN), rather than just a username and password. That means, if someone is trying to break into your account, they can’t get in without the second verification factor.
- To complete this guide, you will need access to your student or employee account.
Steps
- Go to Triton Access Account Settings and login with your student/employee email credentials
- Alternatively, after logging in, click on your name in the top right corner, then Settings
- Click on the green "Edit Profile" button in the top right corner. If you don't see it, you are already in edit mode and can proceed.
- Scroll down to the Security Methods box. Set up or verify your existing security methods. We highly recommend adding at least two. Below you will find in-depth instructions for each option.
Option One: Okta Verify
- Click "Set Up" for the Okta Verify Option
- You may be prompted to enter your current password to verify your identity. Select Set Up Okta Verify; this will display a QR Code
- On your device, download the Okta Verify App from the App Store (iPad/iPhone) or Google Play (Android devices)
- Open the app
- Select Add Account
- Select Organization as account type > Skip (For Import Account)
- Select Yes, Ready to Scan
- Scan the code and allow or skip notification prompts as preferred
- You will then see a Confirmation message
Option Two: Security Key/ Biometric Authenticator
- Click "Set Up" for the Security Key option
- You may be prompted to enter your current password to verify your identity. Select Set up Security Key
- Coming Soon
Option Three: Google Authenticator
- Click "Set Up" for the Google Authenticator option
- You may be prompted to enter your current password to verify your identity. Select Set up Google Authenticator; this will display a QR Code
- On your device, download the Google Authenticator App from the App Store (iPad/iPhone) or Google Play (Android devices)
- Open the app
- In the bottom-left corner, click on the + symbol, then select "Scan QR Code" and complete the scan, select Next once the code appears on your device
- Enter the code. You will see the code beneath edmonds.okta.com: youremail@edmonds.edu / youremail@student.edmonds.edu
- Success! You will now see a revolving security code for ctcLink
Option Four: Phone (Not Supported)
- Due to a third-party policy change, phone numbers will no longer be supported. We do not recommend setting up this option if it appears as available, as it will eventually stop working.
Success! Your account is now MFA compliant
